Walking in the Dark: The Impact of Light Pollution on Animals and Plants

How does our street lighting actually affect the nature around us? On evening walks in Rudkøbing, Humble, Tullebølle and Bagenkop, we focus sharply on the darkness — and on the light that disturbs it.
Along the way, we will talk about how artificial light affects insects, birds, bats and plants. We look at examples and participants are invited to feel the darkness with their senses and experience how much difference light makes — even where it might not be.
The tour is part of the project “Inspiration til Stjernewandringer” supported by the Friluftsråd and Østifterne.
Practical information
The trips are approximately 2-3 km on asphalt and along small paths in varied terrain.
Remember sensible footwear and preferably a flashlight with a red filter (if you have one) — we recommend avoiding strong light sources so that we can experience the darkness together as best as possible.
